Standardized Testing
One of the main debates in education is the implementation of high-stakes testing otherwise known as standardized testing. These tests can have negative consequences on students, teachers, and schools, but many still vouch for the importance of these tests saying that they are a fair and objective way to measure student ability. Standardized testing became mandated through No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and has since been implemented in every state annually.
Whether good or bad, statistics show that the phenomenon of "teaching to the test" is one that is changing the way schools function and the quality of teaching that students are getting.
